Connection Club began as a mission to ensure that "Nobody Feels Forgotten." "Research has found that students who experience a positive transition and successful freshman year, are more likely to stay in school and go to graduate." (McIntosh & White, 2006). High school is a time where many freshman get lost in a less personal and unfamiliar environment. Research also states that the student's "Social concerns had to do with worrying about being bullied in high school, making new friends, and fitting in. " (Akos & Galassi, 2004) Overall, this causes 9th grade students to have social, academic and procedural concerns. The academic stress on an I.B. student is tough enough therefore the Connection Club's mission is help alleviate that stress throughout the school year.

Connection Club is a mentoring program to help upcoming I.B. (International Baccalaureate) freshmen students have an easier transition from middle school to high school. Each freshman that decides to join the club will be surveyed to determine the best matched mentor for them. The survey contains questions about the student's interests which will be utilized in the matching process. With this match, the freshmen will be paired with a sophomore or senior who will assist them with any need throughout the school year. There will be a "session" each month after school for any mentee who would like to meet new people, make new friends or come for tutoring.
